Abstract
Lasher and Gookin1 recently reported an experimental determination of the wavelength dependence of the photorefractive effect in barium titanate. In their experiments a krypton-argon laser was used to access wavelengths between 458 and 676 nm. Some discrepancies were observed between the experimental results and those predicted by standard photorefractive theory. Lasher and Gookin found that the peak photorefractive gain deviated from the 1/wavelength dependence expected at the shorter wavelengths. They also found that the effective empty-trap density decreased with increasing wavelength.
