A phase-conjugate Nd:YAG laser with internal beam steering

Abstract

High beam quality and angular control are important functions for laser sources used in optronic and industrial applications. Phase conjugation via Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) is a promising technique,1,2 which is actively studied in order to achieve near-diffraction-limited high power output beams in master oscillator-double pass amplifier laser sources.3,4 Phase conjugation gives the ability to compensate for phase distortions arising from the inhomogeneous heat load in the bulk of the amplifier. A relevant property of nonlinear mirrors is that the conjugated beam returns exactly on the path of the incident beam.
