Abstract

We have demonstrated the practical suppression1 of long-lived photon echos working on the 6 S1/2 - 6 Pl/2 transition in sodium vapor.2 We have shown that the stimulated echo written by a pair of laser pulses can be either enhanced or degraded by a later second pair of equally separated laser pulses according to whether the relative phase of the second pair is in phase or out of phase with that of the relative phase of the first pair.
