Abstract

Recently, there has been much interest in the amplification of ultrashort pulses to moderate energies for high field physics studies. Solid-state laser materials are of particular interest due to their high energy storage capability. We have built ultrashort pulse amplifiers based on four broad-band solid-state media: alexandrite, Cr:LiSAF, Nd:glass, and Ti:sapphire. The strengths and limitations of these materials and recent results on systems which use these materials are described.
