Abstract
Achievements and prospects for a new generation of highly stable lasers using the selection of cold particles in a gas with 10-1-10-2-K temperatures are reported. Progress in defining transportable laser frequency standards has been made. New results in precision measurements of absolute laser frequencies are reported.
