Abstract
The Cerenkov-radiation scheme for second-harmonic generation (SHG) has been extensively studied since it was first proposed.1 However, the obtainable SHG power is necessarily limited to a relatively low level in comparison with a slab guide scheme. Thus far, we have reported about the Cerenkovian SHG in the slab guide with an organic polymer at both the 1.06 and 2.94 μm lines.2,3 In this paper we propose a new efficient scheme for Cerenkov-radiative SHG, in which the nonlinear optical (NLO) susceptibility χ(2) is corrugated along the beam axis in the guiding layer of the slab waveguide. This is theoretically analyzed to show how the SHG power is enhanced, together with its experimental demonstration.
