Infrared interferometers for atmospheric remote sensing

Abstract

Many uses of atmospheric remote sensing have been identified for high spectral resolution observations of atmospheric emitted radiance. These include measurements of temperature, water vapor, and trace gas profiles; cloud heights, effective particle sizes, and phase; surface temperatures and emissivities; in addition to the direct radiances for climate change studies and for atmospheric spectroscopy. To meet the demand for high radiometric accuracy in such cases, we have exclusively employed Fourier transform IR (FTIR) instruments, which naturally provide the wavelength calibration needed for accurate high resolution radiomerry.
