Technical laser developments at CEL.V for a future MJ Nd3+ laser facility

Abstract

Implosion experiments performed at CEL•V on inertial confinement fusion targets are encouraging. To reach fuel ignition conditions, a more powerful laser, in the megajoule range, is needed. Such lasers need further technological developments and improvements in laser facility concepts. To improve the performances of our existing two-beam Nd+ laser Phebus and to prepare future projects, we have concentrated our laser development efforts on three key areas.
