Abstract
It is commonly believed that, at high temperature, nonradiative Auger recombination is the dominant physical mechanism responsible for extreme temperature sensitivity of threshold current in long wavelength semiconductor lasers. We demonstrate the inadequacy of this explanation. Moreover, we show that net gain determines the high temperature performance of laser diodes.
