Abstract
Broadband image processing with photorefractive materials has been proposed and demonstrated in achromatic thin holograms1 and volume holograms.2 The method that has been used so far usually requires a fixed diffraction grating and an imaging system to keep the optical system achromatic. We describe an achromatic volume holography system that uses a double phase-conjugate mirror3 (DPCM) configuration. In this system, the fixed diffraction grating and the imaging system are not necessary. The system is made achromatic by using the crystal dispersion and proper incidence angles. The achromatic condition will not only enhance the oscillation but also improve the fidelity of the generated phase conjugate beam through phase matching. Such a system may find potential use in optical processing with broadband light sources and femtosecond pulse trains, color display, and image color conversion.
