Abstract

Electroabsorptive and electro refractive semiconductor QW devices continue to attract considerable interest for use in low-power 2-D switching arrays and all-optical spatial light modulators. Although single-beam devices (e.g., self- electro-optic effect devices) have been the most widely studied, recent attention has also focused on two-beam mixing in semi-insulating semiconductor QW devices using second-order (rather than firstorder) electro-optic effects, such as the Franz-Keldysh and Stark effects.
