Abstract

Electrooptic devices based on the quantum-confined stark effect (QCSE) in quantum wells have been successfully operated for many years.1 These devices rely upon the field-induced change in the transition energy (TE) and oscillator strength (OS) of the sharp transitions between holes and electrons confined within one well This situation occurs only in the type I multiple quantum well (MQW) structures.
