Abstract

The recent development of a high yield synthetic method for production of macroscopic pure C60 and c70 has spurred the investigation of their properties.1 To investigate their optical limiting potential, we measured the optical response of methylene chloride and toluene solutions of C60 and C70, to 8-ns, 532 nm optical pulses. Optical limiting was observed in all cases and thresholds were substantially lower than for other comparable optical limiter materials.
