Abstract
The quantum-confined Stark effect (QCSE) has been utilized in a number of devices including optical modulators, detectors, and the self electro-optic effect device (SEED). At present the speed limits of these devices are governed by the external circuit, but, as devices are reduced in size, the internal limitations on de vice speed become important.
