Abstract

The passive generation of femtosecond soliton pulses in erbium-doped fiber lasers have recently caused considerable intcrest.1-3 The figure-8 laser configuration2-4 whose operation is based on the soliton-favoring reflection properties of the nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM)5 has been the subject of considerable study.
