Multiple Wavelength Operation of a Diode Array Coupled to an External Cavity

Abstract

We report simultaneous operation of several elements in a laser diode array at different wavelengths using an external cavity. The cavity geometry allows tuning of all the wavelengths with geometrical control over the wavelength spacing. Integrated external cavity arrays have been demonstrated that share a common gain region.1 However, for simultaneous operation, compensating for optical crosstalk becomes a significant design issue.2 The multiple wavelengths in the present design do not share a common region and thus are less susceptible to crosstalk.
