Abstract

LaSc3(BO3)4, NdSc3(BO3)4, and their solid solutions crystallize in a huntite type structure, which is known from the stoichiometric Nd laser crystals like NdAl3(BO3)4 and Nd:YAl3(BO3)4 ("NYAB"). (La,Nd)Sc3(BO3)4 is the only huntite type borate, which has been successfully grown by the Czochralski method in large dimensions and good optical quality. Flash lamp pumped laser operation with high efficiency has been reported by Kutovoi et al. [1], We have grown (Nd,La)Sc3(BO3)4 single crystals by the Czochralski technique with 20mm diameter and 75mm length.
