Abstract
Many studies have been made on 0.98-μm InGaAs/GaAs strained quantum well lasers to be used as light sources for pumping Er-doped optical fiber amplifiers (HDFAs). This application requires a. stable lasing wavelength. Recently, 0.98-μm DFB lasers with AlGaAs cladding layers were reported.1 Reliable operation of these light sources as required is possible through use of an InGaP cladding layer or an Al-free compound system.2–4 In this paper, we demonstrate tire stable single-mode operation of 0.98-µm InGaAs/GaAs/InGaAsP/InGaP DFB lasers.
