Abstract

The appearance of powerful and effective laser diodes intended for pumping of solid-state lasers made it possible to create all-solid-state laser devices including compact all-solid-state tunable lasers.1 Tunable lasers of this type known so far include complicated OPOs with intracavity frequency doublers for the UV and shortwavelength visible.2 This version does not allow one to control the output radiation spectral bandwidth and other output parameters of the device although this is desirable for some cases. So, a better technical solution to create all-solid-state tunable UV laser would be to use d-f transitions of rare-earth ions in solids to obtain UV radiation3,4 provided the active medium suitable for pumping by a solid-state laser source not by excimer lasers3,4 is available.
