Abstract

The interest in solid state lasers based on praseodym is due to the fact that Pr3+ offers many transitions in the visible and near infrared spectral region. The first pulsed 77K-lasor operation of Pr3+ was demonstrated in CaWO4 by Yariv et al. in 1962.1 In the meantime, pulsed 300 K stimulated emission of Pr3+ has been reported at several wavelengths in different host crystals.2–4
