Abstract

We have designed the architecture and demonstrated some of the components for a 100- Gbit/s, time-division multiplexed, soliton ring network (SEN). This is a self-routing, packet switched, local or metropolitan area "light-pipe" network where optical/electronic conversions are pushed to the boundaries of the system (source and destination).1 Time-domain networks permit an all-digital, system that is simpler for implementing packet switching.
