Abstract

All-optical switching in AlGaAs with photon energies near half the band gap has been demonstrated with femtosecond pulses in a number of devices including the nonlinear directional coupler (NLDC).1-3 In these single beam experiments the power of the input signal determined whether it stayed in the input channel, or switched to the parallel channel. In this paper we show for the first time, to our knowledge, that in an integrated optics format, single pulses can be removed from a data stream by using control pulses to switch the output channel in a NLDC, i.e., demultiplexing.
