Abstract
Lithium borate (LRO) is one of the nonlinear crystals for second- and third-harmonic generation of Nd:YAG lasers. It has the most acceptable physical, optical and nonlinear optical properties for these purposes.1 High conversion efficiency of Q-switch Nd:YAG lasers was achieved (> 70% for type 1 doubling, and > 80% for type II doubling),2 but no literature has addressed the efficient use of the LBO for cw lasers. This crystal has no large nonlinear coefficient; nevertheless, since it has sufficiently large angular and thermal bandwidth of the phase-matching, small walkoff angle, small absorption loss, and high optical damage threshold, it is of great interest for the intracavity frequency doubling of lasers with high focused Gaussian light beams and high pump power.
