Thermal hysteretic effects in a triply resonant optical parametric oscillator

Abstract

A cw optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is an important tool .in the field of quantum optics for generating nonclassical states of light. Typically, such an OPO application requires an output coupling that is large in comparison with the internal losses. This often leads to an unacceptably high pump threshold for a doubly resonant OPO. When the OPO is above threshold and significant pump depletion occurs, thermal problems caused by the absorption of the pump and subhavmonic powers can also arise. We have constructed a special 2-element triply resonant OPO (TRO) that reduces the pump threshold.
