Abstract
Mutually pumped phase-conjugators have great potential for locking together semiconductor diode lasers, because the conjugator generates light beams that travel precisely into the active regions of each laser. Ideally the conjugator should self-start even if the two lasers are mutually incoherent, and should continue to function even if the lasers become phase-locked and their output beams become mutually coherent.
