Abstract
We built and tested a one-slab-long multisegment amplifier (MSA) module with four 29 × 29 cm2 apertures arranged in a 2 × 2 array. This module is a two-thirds-scale prototype for amplifier modules that will be used in the Nova Upgrade Beamlet, a multipassed, image-relayed, harmonically converted Nd:glass laser now under construction at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The Nova Upgrade Beamlet Project has been undertaken to demonstrate advanced laser technology for inertial confinement fusion experiments, such as the proposed 1-2 MJ Nova Upgrade.3 The Beamlet is expected to produce 5 kj/3 ns pulses at 351 nm.
