Abstract

Self-mod e-locking is an attractive means of generating ultra short pulses from a single- cavity laser.1-4 The self-phase modulation and self-focusing effects are of key importance. In particular seif-focusing of the intracavity beam can lead to changes in the transverse mode and resonator stability characteristics or to a change in the accessible gain volume which play a major role in the self- mode-locking process.
