Q-switched laser ablation near λ = 3 μm

Abstract

The models of the processes involved in laser ablation consider: (1) optical excitation of tissue molecules, (2) heating of the tissue, and (3) ejection of the heated tissue volume. Optical excitation is described by the absorption coefficient. Thermal changes in the absorption coefficient near 3 μm occur. Thus, both low-intensity and high-intensity spectroscopy of water are needed to explain 3 μm-laser-ablation of tissue.
