Abstract

In direct-drive laser fusion experiments, the control of the intensity distributions in the irradiation beam is very important to illuminate a spherical nuclear fuel target uniformly. Several-beam smoothing technologies, such as random phase plate (RPP),1 induced spatial incoherent (ISI),2 smoothing by spectral dispersion (SSD),3 smoothing using optical fiber, and partially coherent light source of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE)4, have been proposed to improve the irradiation uniformity.
