Abstract
In high energy laser (HEL) research, if the effect of aerosols is neglected the thermal blooming effect does not exist when an ideal plane-wave laser propagates through atmosphere. But when the thermal blooming effect of aerosol is considered, the ideal plane-wave laser will induce the inhomogeneity of the refractive index of the atmosphere. This paper is based on the theory of thermal blooming of a single aerosol interacting with a continuous plane-wave laser.
