Abstract

Excimer laser processing of materials is no longer limited to changes of surface morphology, but includes the modification of the physical properties of materials, such as their electrical conductivity.1,2 To date, laser-induced modification of material properties has been, performed, primarily on polymers. Laser processing of fullerene thin films presents an opportunity to investigate the physics involved in the laser-induced modification of a chemically simple molecular solid. In addition, the semiconductive and photoconductive properties of fullerene thin films may yield many potential new applications of this laser processing method.
