Abstract

Distributed temperature sensors allow to record the temperature profile along an optical fiber and can therefore replace a large number of single point thermometers.1,2 For this purpose a short laser pulse is injected into a multimode fiber and the operator measures the time dependent intensity of the Raman components of the backscattered light.
