Wide band lightwave frequency synthesizer system using an EDFA and AOD in a fiber loop

Abstract

Highly dense future WDM networks require a large number of optical reference frequencies. Pulsed lightwave sweep frequency signals have been generated using a fiber loop with an LD or erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and an acousto-optical deflector (AOD).1-2 However, the previous reports generated an insufficient number of frequencies due to incomplete equalization of the loop loss by the amplifier.
