Abstract

With advances in electronics the demand for optically uniaxial crystals with a large birefringence has increased. However, due to various reasons high-quality Iceland spar and rutile crystals have not been obtained so far. In this connection it is important to develop novel, efficient birefringent materials; among them the CdAs2 single crystals should be noted. CdAs2 is a typical II-V semiconductor noted for strong anisotropy of properties. Optoelectronic applications of CdAs2 is considerably limited by the absence of firm studies on its optical properties.
