Noise reduction of the argon ion laser emission with an external cavity

Abstract

Laser noise reduction by coherent photon seeding (CPS) for laser noise reduction has been realized with a synchronously pumped mode-locked (SPML) dye laser1 and with a mode-locked argon laser.2 We present some CPS experimental results that we obtained with a mode-locked argon ion laser and a continuous argon ion laser. These lasers were operated with an external cavity terminated by a phase conjugate mirror (PCM). The use of a PCM ensures the self-alignment of the external cavity and the best spatial overlap between the reinjected and intracavity fields.
