Abstract
Efficient second harmonic conversion of low intensity beams has long been an object of investigation. We report what we believe to be the highest accomplished second harmonic conversion efficiency of a long pulse Nd:glass zig zag slab laser. High conversion efficiency of the output of a 500 nsec long pulse laser poses a unique set of constraints to the design of a second harmonic generator. A previous investigation1 of high conversion efficiency for long pulse used a mode-locked pulse train thus increasing 100 fold the peak power.
