Abstract
For picosecond time resolved spectroscopy besides the wavelength tunability of the probe pulses and the relatively high power of the pump pulses it is desirable to have independent tunability as well as short pulse duration of the pump pulses. All these features could not be simultaneously realized in cw schemes based on difference-frequency mixing of the radiation of a synchronously pumped dye laser (SPDL) and the corresponding pump laser until the recent application of a self mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser as a master oscillator.1
