Abstract
Cascading of second-order nonlinearities results in irradiance dependent phase shifts, providing an alternative to nonlinear refractive (n2) materials for all-optical switching. This nonlinearity circumvents problems of obtaining large n2 with low loss as there is no irreversible loss in the χ(2) process. Recent experimental studies have shown that large phase shifts can be obtained in KTP near phasematching for second-harmonic generation (SHG).1·2
