Selective amplification of the amplitude Stokes fluctuations in stimulated Brillouin scattering

Abstract

The stochastic initiation of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) leads to intensity fluctuations in the Stokes radiation. It is known that the development of fluctuations in SBS with pump depletion depends on the ratio between parameters T1 (the light propagation time through the effective amplification length) and T2 (hypersound relaxation time). In particular, at T1/ T2 → 1 decreasing of fluctuations without significant change of the Gaussian statistic of their time distribution is usually observed.1
