Abstract
All-optical switches made of semiconductor waveguides are attractive for future high-speed optical communication and optical data processing. However, the main difficulty in developing practical all-optical switches lies in the trade-off between high switching speed and low switching energy. When efficient band-filling nonlinearity is utilized, the problem is slow relaxation time.
