Abstract
The most accurate way to model beahvior of a self-modelocked (Kerr-lens mode- locked) laser is through three-dimensional numerical techniques, such as FFT techniques. Unfortunately, such methods are computing intensive and produce results that can be hard to interpret. Because of these limitations, researchers have developed other, more approximate ways to model self-modelocked lasers. Some methods treat spatial evolution of the beam in the laser cavity; others treat temporal or spatio-temporal evolution.
