Abstract
Nearly degenerate four-wave mixing (NDFWM) in semiconductor lasers has attracted considerable attention in view of both practical device applications and in gaining a better understanding of nonlinear processes in semiconductor devices.1-4 For conventional edge-emitting semiconductor lasers, conjugate reflectivities exceeding 103 have been demonstrated.1,4 Such high reflectivities are achieved because of the high gain in a semiconductor laser and the feedback effect of the Fabry-Perot cavity. In this paper, we study for the first time NDFWM in a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL).
