Subpicosecond infrared pulse generation using a synchronously pumped OPO

Abstract

For many ultrafast experiments it is desirable to have synchronized subpicosecond pulses at multiple wavelengths. Recently, synchronously pumped parametric oscillators (SPPO) have been used to satisfy this requirement as well as produce ultrafast pulses at wavelengths beyond 1 μm. In this paper, we demonstrate the synchronism inherent in an SPPO by measuring a 100 fs cross-correlation between the pump and signal pulses. We then use the synchronization between the signal and idler to generate pulses at wavelengths near 3 μm by difference frequency mixing in lithium niobate.
