Abstract

Wright Laboratory has been involved in the research and development of diode pumped solid state laser radar systems since the mid 1980s. The application of this research is toward low cost, autonomous, accurate, seekers for air-to-surface weapons. The technologies being investigated include high power diodes, various host materials, coupling techniques and cavity configurations. The overall goal is to develop a diode pumped solid state (DPSS) laser radar system with a high frame rate, long range, and resolution which will allow automatic target recognition on ground mobile targets in the 5-10-km range.
