Multigigahertz tuning of the single-frequency output from a cw single-cavity optical parametric oscillator

Abstract

It has recently been demonstrated that the difficulty in the continuous tuning of doubly resonant optical parametric oscillators (DROs) pumped at a fixed frequency may be overcome through the use of devices that use a beams plitter to separate the signal and idler beams into cavities whose lengths may be independently controlled.1,2 Disadvantages of this dual-cavity design are are increased complexity of alignment and the difficulty of operating low loss beam splitters in potentially widely tunable type-1 DROs. We report here on a continuous tuning of 4.5 GHz achieved in a single-cavity DRO by the tuning of its all-solid-state pump source while its cavity length was controlled to maintain the double-resonance condition.
