Readout of a broadly illuminated optical disk by imaging

Abstract

A high information density and a high transfer rate are required for an optical-disk system. To reach this end, we developed a novel readout system. Our system used a broadened light source instead of a conventional point-emitting laser diode. Information pits on the disk were imaged onto a multielement detector, and the signal was played back while it was processed at the same time.
