Design and construction of fiber optic probes for diagnostic and therapeutic applications

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

New opportunities in photonics based medicine require fiber optic systems that have capabilities to diagnose disease and/or treat it. We will describe efforts to develop and construct these probes to complement technologies being developed in spectroscopically analyzing tissues and treating lesions with photons. Rare Earth Medical is developing spectroscopic diagnostic probes utilizing materials combined with fiber optics that allow high S/N spectroscopic measurements to be made.
