Abstract
Upconversion lasing in rare-earth-ion-doped fibers is attractive for light sources in the short-visible-wavelength region. For compact devices, direct pumping by laser diodes (LDs) is highly desired. Room-temperature cw upconversion lasing at 0.48 μm in Tm-doped fluorozirconate (ZBLAN) fibers has been previously reported.1,2 Upconversion lasing was achieved by using as the pump light source a 1.12-μm solid-state laser pumped by a watt-order high-power LD.
