Improvement of mode locking by intracavity talons

Abstract

Stable and tunable ultrashort pulse sources are of great importance in many fields of basic and applied research. Usually, a passive mode-locked laser can generate shorter pulses than can an active mode-locked laser, but its stability is poorer. By inserting suitable etalons in an active mode-locked laser, stable and tunable shorter pulses can be generated.1 Here, some corresponding design ideas and experimental results in an active mode-locked Nd:YLF laser with suitable intracavity étalons are reported.
