Abstract

The ability to integrate optical modulators and detectors on silicon circuitry promises to help alleviate the limitations of electrical I/O in today’s complex digital switching and processing systems. As an initial demonstration of this technology, the hybrid integration of MQW modulators and detectors with commercial electronic circuits has enabled us to design 8×8 arrays of optoelectronic switching nodes operating up to 375 Mb/s [1-3].
